Where the hell have I been?

The answer is twofold. One is that I've been tending to personal and professional responsibilities which made me put blogging on the backburner. Two is that on the couple of occasions since my last post when I've tried to blog, Blogger has utterly refused to cooperate, thwarting my efforts in a Karl Dorrellian manner that only Pete Carroll can fully appreciate.

However, I've missed it pretty bad, and I'm ready to get back in the saddle. A lot has happened since my last post, but you've gone to Dawgbone.net, Dawgsports, and the Georgia Sports Blog, among others to stay caught up. So I'm off the hook on that stuff. Thanks Reggie!

I do want to extend my sincere thanks to Kyle for nominating me for a College Football Blogger Award. It was surprising and highly appreciated. Kyle points to my post-Kentucky wrapup as one fine post. I find this amusing (in hindsight) because I wrote it in three minutes, two of which were used editing the profanity out of the original draft. Now I know sorta how Keith Richards must feel when people tell him that his riff from "Satisfaction" was the greatest guitar lick ever, and he has to explain to them that he wrote it while out of his mind on heroin and has no recollection of it whatsoever. I think Kyle also compared Kanu and I to The New Kids on the Block, but I'm letting that slide.

In other news David Ching reports that the Neil Callaway to UAB rumors are picking up steam. It's funny how so many among us thought Callaway was an awful coach and recruiter, until now. Surprisingly, Doug Gillett, die-hard Bulldog and professional Blazer has not weighed in yet. I assume he's leading a rally in front of the UAB adminstration building on behalf of Slick Rick Neuheisel.

Some have expressed trepidation about our stabe of offensive line recruits, but I'm not really worried. I took the liberty of perusing Rivals' list of commitments, which includes the primary recruiter for each player. The only lineman for whom Callaway is listed as primary in Tanner Strickland, who's not going anywhere. Macon native Callaway's primary territory is South Georgia, but Izzy Troupe and Vance Cuff (our other below the gnat-line recruits) aren't following him to UAB. While continuity is key in college football (are you listening, Mal Moore?), some attrition is inevitable. It's the price of success. Hot programs attract good coaches, and no school comes after the assistants from 2-10 teams.

Additionally, I'll be putting together some interesting posts leading up to the bowl, mostly forward looking posts about position battles for next year, as well as some recruiting stuff. I've also got some feelers out for some special guest posters who should keep things lively. Until later, Go Dawgs!
